Short bio

Jérôme Urbain received the Master degree in Electrical Engineering from FPMs in 2006. During his studies, he was involved in a Research project at UPC in Barcelona, aiming at finding prominent words in speech. He did his Master thesis work at Lehigh University (Pennsylvania, USA) in the sleep processing field and in particular about the discrimination between sleep and wake using actigraphy. In september 2006 he joined the Circuit Theory and Signal Processing Lab of FPMs, which is now part of the University of Mons. He first worked on sleep stages classification in the framework of the DREAMS project. In Januray 2007, he moved to the CALLAS project. The aims of the project are to develop affective new media, with a focus on arts and entertainement. Within the CALLAS project, Jérôme is principally involved in the integration of a Speech recognition component and is doing research on acoustic laughter processing (classification, recognition, copy-synthesis), which is the subject of the PhD he is carrying out.
