PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Project management refers to the process of planning, organizing, directing and controlling the integrated effort to efficiently achieve the technical objectives within the constraints of time schedule and budget.

Structure of the Consortium

To enhance the coordination and the effectiveness of the Consortium management the following structure will be adopted.

Project Manager

The Project Manager is appointed by the Coordinating Partner and is responsible for:

The Project Manager will use the initial work package breakdown and work plan as a basis for follow-up. According to the several phases in which the project enters, he may use specific assessment methods (especially during phase of software development and integration).

He also acts as a contact point between the consortium and the Commission Project Officer.

WP Managers, Partner Project Leaders and Project Management Committee

Each work package will be managed by a WP Manager who will be responsible for the follow-up of work and possible synchronization of the different tasks.

Each partner nominates a Project Leader who is in charge of the management of the tasks associated to that organization and acts as the partner focal point. In our case, Project Leaders will also be WP Managers.

The Project Management Committee is composed of the Contractors' Project Leaders and is chaired by the Project Manager. Its main activities are:

Since the Project Managers will all have a clear technical involvement, the standard technical management will be carried by the Project Management Committee, namely:

Project Technical Committee

This committee is composed of the technical leaders of several work packages, together with the Project Leaders. Its role will be to address specific technical problems that have a specialized content and are not part of standard technical management.

Reporting

However, on top of these periodic reports:

Meetings

Review meetings will be held whenever planned in the Technical Annex or required by the CEC or the reviewers. In this case, the Project Manager will do his best to guarantee a succinct, precise and complete information exchange between all the partners and the CEC representatives.

Project Management Committee meetings shall be held at least every six months to review the overall project progress and the administrative and economic status.

WP managers will be responsible for calling WP or task specific meetings whenever appropriate.

Information Management

Documents, data, reports and other information will be exchanged in English version through the partners. Project Leaders at each site are responsible for document configuration and management.

LaTeX will be the official word processing software used by the consortium.

Standard communication will make extensive use of e-mail, with larger amounts of information (source code, reports, etc) being exchanged by a private FTP site.

A World Wide Web page will be set up at the start of the project to provide information on the partners and technology in use. This will be updated as the project progresses.
